Genre: Picture BookThemes: Alphabet
Grade Level: K-2
Curricular Connections: English (alphabet), Science/Social Studies (as a model for an assessment tool.)
A is for seed-
tomorrow's APPLE
B is for eggs-
tomorrow's BIRDS
And so continues Tomorrow's Alphabet. There's not too much to describe about this book. There is no story or connection from letter to letter. This book simply shows what one object will be tomorrow. The pattern does open up numerous opportunities for classroom use.
Classroom Connections:
1. Predicting - Teachers can read the first part of each letter - A is for seed - and have students predict what A will be for tomorrow.
2. Drawing Conclusions - Teachers can give the letter and what it is for tomorrow. Students need to draw a conclusion as to what the letter was for yesterday. For example, knowing that J is for tomorrow's jack-o-lantern, students try to draw the conclusion that yesterday J was for pumpkin.
3. Teachers can use the book as a model for older students. After a unit in science or social studies, students can create their own book using main items of information from the unit. A unit about expansion west could include "L is for $15 million- tomorrow's Louisiana Purchase." An example in an earth science unit could be "M is for heat and pressure which causes- tomorrow's Metamorphic rock."
