It is our intention with this project to present a variety of children’s books that
- Are recognized for their quality through various awards.
- Span a range of age levels, from kindergarten through young adult.
- Span a range of genres.
- Represent both older classics and newer titles.
- Have content that is of high interest to their readers.
- Can be applied to classroom content across the curriculum.
Our decision to present the information in a website was based mainly on ease of use, both for authors and users. By using an online publishing tool, in this case, Blogger, all of our information - published posts, drafts, organized lists, and the layout of the project – was stored online and accessible for additions, revisions, and publication from any computer with online capability. The website’s layout allowed us to organize information by labels, making information easily searchable by a number of topics. The website also gave us the ability to group posts with similar topics while at the same time created a separate page for each individual post. Finally, users are not limited to those who have a CD-ROM or printed copy of the project. It is widely available on the Internet.
The books we chose were based a number of criteria, including
- American Library Association award winners.
- Personal experience.
- Classroom experience
- The desire to present a great variety of children’s literature
- Our opinion of a book’s potential for classroom use.
It is our intention that this website will aid teachers who wish to use literature in their classroom. Teachers searching for books can search by genre, author, grade level, or classroom subject. In no way is this a complete list, but we feel it is comprehensive one that shows the great variety in children’s literature, from kindergarten to young adult.
